3. Fixture-Level Shutoffs (The Most Overlooked)
Many plumbing fixtures have individual shutoff valves:
Under Sinks
Both hot and cold lines usually have small angle stop valves.
Toilets
A small valve is typically located behind the toilet near the wall.
Washing Machines
Hot and cold supply valves are usually in a wall box behind the washer.
Water Heater
A cold water supply shutoff is located above the unit.
These allow you to stop water to a single fixture without shutting down the whole home.
What About Tubs and Showers?
Most standard site-built homes do not have easy-access shutoffs for tubs and showers.
However:
- Some manufactured homes do
- Some remodels include access panels
- Newer plumbing designs may include service access
If unsure, it’s worth checking for an access panel behind the wall or in a closet.
