THAT PESKY WIND! After Storm Care for Your Plumbing
Severe storms can wreak havoc on your plumbing. After the wind dies down, take these steps to check for damage and prevent further problems:
- Check for Leaks: Inspect your pipes, faucets, and outdoor spigots for any signs of leaks or damage.
- Water Heater After a Power Outage: Once power is restored, check your water heater. If it’s electric, make sure the circuit breaker hasn’t tripped. If it’s gas, ensure the pilot light is lit. If you smell gas (rotten eggs), leave the area immediately and call your gas company and Plumberoo!
- Check Your Sewer Line: If you notice slow drains or backups, your sewer line may have been damaged.
- Inspect Your Sump Pump: If you have a sump pump, make sure it’s working properly to prevent flooding.
